A family from Worsley, near Manchester, fell seriously ill with food poisoning while on holiday at the Sol Cayo Guillermo hotel in Cuba, leading them to seek legal assistance. The Perry family, who had booked through Thomas Cook, reported suffering severe symptoms, with one son requiring daily medical visits. Their complaints included unsanitary food practices such as being served meals on A4 paper due to a shortage of plates, with some paper containing private information as well as uncovered, undercooked, and reheated food. Additionally, they noted unhygienic pool conditions, with visible waste in the water.
Leading international lawyer, Amandeep Dhillon, expressed deep concern over these recurring issues and urged Thomas Cook to conduct a thorough investigation into the hotel’s hygiene and safety standards. He stressed the responsibility of tour operators to ensure guest safety and criticised the conditions as "appalling," calling for swift action and fair compensation for affected clients.
